North Carolina is ranked #3 of highest states with inbound moves

The report showed that the following five states boasted the highest percentage of inbound moves in 2015:

  1. Oregon: 64%
  2. Idaho: 63%
  3. North Carolina: 61%
  4. Alaska: 60%
  5. North Dakota: 59%

Meanwhile, these five states had the highest percentage of outbound moves in 2015:

  1. Hawaii: 62%
  2. New York: 61.8%
  3. Illinois: 61.7%
  4. South Dakota: 60%
  5. Wyoming: 59.5%

The data, overall, showed that the number of moves rose in 2015 compared to 2014.

“Our annual migration patterns study is not only a resource for the relocation industry, but it provides invaluable insights into the nation’s economic landscape,” says Jack Griffin, president and COO of Atlas World Group. “We are excited to utilize the data to identify interesting shifts both nationally and regionally this year, and it is promising to see moves increased in 2015.”

For the fourth consecutive year, the states with the highest number of total moves were:

  • California: 14,973
  • Texas: 12,403
  • Florida: 10,534
